Okay, audience participation time! I’m re-tooling the first 12 Java Jaguar strips to submit for syndication. I want to check on the audience opinion on the look of Java… as he would appear in your daily paper.
Note: All the submission guidelines call for black and white, even though my weekly paper has comics that are all in color, but whatever. Jumping through hoops…
Biggest obstacle I found was that since the webcomic could be produced at a much larger size, the font could be relatively small compared to the characters. In order to make the font readable at newsprint size, I had to reduce the size of the figures. Anyway, here’s the first three strips as samples. Any comments and/or feedback are not only welcome, but MANDATORY for all Java fans.
Good luck with the syndication. Love the strip, but sometimes a single strip won’t stand alone. Just my two cents.
Yeah, I know it. They do ask for a two week supply of comics to submit for sampling. Trying to decide if I should take some of the later funnier ones or just go with Java #1 to #12.
It looks fine; if possible, do at least one sample in colo{u}r as well, just to show ’em what you’re made of.
Good idea. Also, I just now realized that parts of the strip are white, like Java’s tummy, eyes, and the dialog balloons. But when printed on newsprint those would be exactly the same tone as the background grey… I really need a “How to Submit Your Comic for Dummies” book…
Good luck. I’ve attempted this four times, so here’s wishing better luck for you than I had. 🙂
Thanks, Joyce!
I’m probably too late with my suggestion, but I didn’t see this thread until now. You’ll need the first 3 strips to set up the premise of the story. Then since you need 9 more, how about these – 008, 014, 015, 018, 022, 038, 039, 043, 044
The first few give a flavor of what the strip is about. Then the last few give the set-up for the coffee wars. Hopefully that will hook them in to see how Java did it.
Thanks, will do. I’ve fallen way behind, I wanted this submitted already (because it normally takes 3 or 4 months for them to ignore you…) :D. But King’s Syndicate actually requires 24 strips to be submitted so I can use 1 through 8 as a set up then incorporate a bit more of the Coffee Wars.
Sorry, I meant 017 not 018.
Thanks Java! I swear, I’ll help with the scone supply…..
Purrrr….
