Java 401
As you all know, I do meticulous research on this strip. So I watched this video entitled “baby chipmunk sounds” in order to have authentic onomatopoeia in baby chip’s dialog bubbles. I think we can all agree I nailed this:
Unless this video was made by an 11-year-old and not a zoologist like I assumed. Because, any rational person would listen to that and say “That’s a bird.” Of course, maybe I’m not the best person to match animals with sounds. I grew up in Hawaii and was in my 30’s when I finally figured out that geckos make this noise.
I always assumed when I heard that it was a bird of some kind. And there are about 2.3 quadrillion of these ugly grey geckos in Hawaii making that “chapping” noise and I never realized where it came from.
Okay, enough embarrassing Matt stories. Here’s the timelapse video of me drawing today’s Java Jaguar strip. As you can see, I went all out in panel 2, drawing never-before-seen poses for both Matt and Java. Usually I can just cut and paste the line art from old strips, but I’ve never had Java toss himself a snack or Matt intercepting said snack. So these figures were drawn from scratch, just like the cavemen did in their caves.
Yeah Java, if you’re gonna eat something go for a tree rat. They’re more filling and the vermin deserve it.
Do you have any idea what chipmunk’s can do too gardens? We have a cat who has cleared them all out in last least a one block area and has made many friends doing so. They happen to be a small part of his “kill count” which includes at least two squirrels and a snake. Kinda sad about the snake.
My mom had a Kamikaze chipmunk that would make diving attacks at the doves that were hogging the seed in the bird feeder.
