What exactly in nature does a snail’s shell protect him from? A falling twig somewhere in the 1 to 2-ounce range I guess? I’m pretty sure just about any bird can peck right through it. All it does is make for convenient escargot eating containers.

They need to understand that Java can never be destroyed.
The answer is not obvious. It gives the snail a microsized place to sleep that can defend against tiny mites, and can keep snails from drying out.
And it continues to grow with them, unlike my house, even as my waist expands and attempts to take over the room.
